I was born in South Wales and now live in Dorset having lived in East Anglia for nearly 30 years. Visual stimulation from different surroundings, colour combinations from nature or photographic images, or even a piece of fabric can create ideas for inclusion in a painting. I enjoy the vibrant colours, light and brightness of the Mediterranean, Australia or the fascination of fishing boats in the West Country.
I have a compulsive desire to paint, create, make marks and produce vivid and expressive work. I use lively surface texture and intense colours and endeavour to capture the essence of a place or subject, not restricted with realism. I am also producing glass-fused paintings, dishes and jewellery.
Most of my paintings start with a visit, sketch or photo. I don’t try to be realistic but just to enjoy how a painting emerges. I don’t have any preconceived idea of what it will look like when completed. I have recently been inspired by the wonderful artwork I have seen on my many visits to Australia. I hope the warmth, colour and vibrancy show through.
I have exhibited in many galleries across the UK including Cambridge Contemporary Art, Cambridge, Buckenham Galleries, Southwold, Biscuit Factory, Newcastle, D’art Gallery, Dartmouth, The Moreton Gallery, Moreton in Marsh, Montpellier Gallery, Stratford upon Avon, Ardquin Fine Art, Haselmere, Enid Lawson, London, Pantiles Edge, Tunbridge Wells.
